Request For: Pro and College Baseball
Request Title: Relief Quick Hook
Description
I'd like to see better control over how long a reliever is left in the game, similar to quick hook for starters.

Category: Enhancement
Status: Declined (last updated Nov 24 21:41:05 2022 )
Priority: Declined

Admin Notes
Concern here is that it would be too easy to burn through your bullpen if you set reliever quick hook to "high". Additionally, there is nothing in the DEL simulation, like most baseball simulators, that accounts for a possibility that a player is "getting lit up". That is to say, if a player is not doing well but was the best pitcher to come in and hasn't gotten injured or too fatigued, he is still the best pitcher to remain in.
Note that, if the game situation changes, that pitcher would be pulled due to no longer needing your closer (for example) once your 2-run lead became a 2-run deficit. But he would not be pulled solely because he was getting lit up.
So, I agree that managers will pull someone out in this case in real-life, but this would just be a "sabotage my team" option as non-injured, non-fatigued players do not have bad games in DEL.

AJ Dickens (Sep 3 05:29:22 2020 ): I think this makes things more realistic. If your relievers are getting lit up then they are going to get pulled quick. I personally don't think I have ever seen a game where more then 5 pitchers were used. In that scenario you would still have up to 3 more relief pitchers in the bullpen.
Loren Smith (Oct 3 17:29:20 2020 ): S.White would never happen in real life. Pythagoras A (Mar 7 19:56:08 2021 ): I would be for the change. It isn't that most would want 2 or 3 pitchers per inning. But, when a reliever obviously doesn't have it and puts the first 3 or 4 guys on base, he needs to be pulled. We have all seen 5+ run leads evaporate because some reliever seemingly stays in for 6 or 7 batter without getting any out, but he isn't "tired" yet.
