The challenge is that DEL currently doesn't have a way of creating a different set of postseason rules for each conference. Suggestion for this thread would be to suggest something that we would like to implement league-wide. For example:
Tier 1: double bye for seeds 1-4, bye for seeds 5-8, and seeds 9+ play in the first round assuming there are enough teams seeded 13+, with all games at neutral site.
Tiers 2-3: triple bye for seeds 1-2, double bye for seeds 3-4, bye for seeds 5-6, and seeds 7-10 play in the first round, with all games at higher seeded team's site.
Both formats give some edge to regular season record, though much moreso for the mid-majors that are unlikely to get a second team.
Thoughts? Other suggestions?

7/27 - still waiting for additional suggestions / comments - especially the question of doing this by Tier instead of customizing by conference.
8/1 - clarification to Loren's latest comment - the current proposal on the table would make for fewer upsets in the mid-majors, as there would be differing levels of byes for Tiers 2-3.

Stephen Thompson: I know Andy has been disinclined to do changes like this in the past, but I think this would add a lot of flavor to CBEL. I think it would also be great if conferences could include that the tournament is played at the regular season champ's court versus neutral site. The big argument against this is simple: there are a lot of conferences and their rules change far too often for CBEL to try to keep up with. This is why we don't have conference-specific tie breaker rules as well. But I think this would add a lot of personality to the individual conferences which is lacking right now.
Loren Smith (Aug 1 14:58:17 2020 ): I'd be ok with introducing the Double Bye only for Tier 1 as you've described. I do like some upsets in the mid-majors and bubble busters, so I lean toward just leaving those as-is.
